About
Doruk Sen (2005, İstanbul) is a Los Angeles based photographer and actor.
His early path took an unconventional trajectory during middle school following his father’s imprisonment, leading him to navigate four different high schools. In 2024, he relocated to Los Angeles to pursue a BFA in Filmmaking. Shortly after, enduring the passing of both his grandfather and his mentor, alongside the imprisonment of two close friends, initiated a profound personal upheaval that took an extended period to navigate and deeply shaped his narrative focus.
His practice refuses to limit itself to a single visual school, choosing instead to engage the viewer through direct and provocative confrontation. Rather than inviting passive observation, the work intentionally disrupts the viewer's comfort zone with an unyielding, objective stance.
Across disciplines, visual technique is treated not as the end goal, but as a vehicle for building ideological discourse.
Light serves as a primary tool, treated almost as a sculptural material to carve form and atmosphere out of space. Yet technical mastery is viewed merely as a prerequisite. The intellectual core of the practice is grounded in realism, insisting that visual work must ultimately assume a distinct political character.
This uncompromising stance extends into every platform the work inhabits, from independent projects to commercial engagements, injecting visual culture with critical depth and authentic narrative.
Alongside independent practice, Doruk extends his visual and ideological framework into commercial and editorial spaces. Approaching fashion photography, creative direction, and visual identity through the same critical lens, he bridges raw narrative with brand identity, offering a distinct, uncompromising perspective for editorial platforms and creative collaborations.
